Alpha Kappa Alpha women have always dared to venture forth, to explore their talents and to bring greater laurels to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Four Atlanta area women did just this in the fall of 1979 when Fannie Gilliam, Iris Palmer, Yvette Simpson and Betty Burleson felt the need for a second Atlanta Alumna Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. On September 13, 1980, Nu Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was formed.
With the dynamic leadership of Fannie Gilliam, Nu Lambda Omega Chapter’s First President, great strides were made in service as illustrated in the following projects:
WSB-TV Health Fair Hotline
Children’s Art Festival
in Alpha Kappa Alpha
Fulton County Emergency Food Bank
SCLC Women-Christmas party for seniors
Family Day Activity-Atlanta Dogwood Festival
First Founders Day Celebration with our Undergraduate Chapter
Throughout the years since its inception, Nu Lambda Omega Chapter continues to fulfill its purpose in the Great Atlanta Metropolitan Area. Led by Soror Jean Hickman, the chapter continues to carry on the tradition of community service, fundraising, civic contributions, youth mentoring and financial empowerment.
Nu Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated works side by side with each other, neighboring chapters and the community. She continues to root herself as a sisterhood of support, a sisterhood of increased scholarship contributions, and a sisterhood of service to all mankind.
